Staff Pick – Quilted Hues
This week’s staff pick is a 5’x7′ stunner from Orley Shabahang’s Art Deco collection – Quilted Hues. Continue reading to learn why this design is one of our favorites.
Quilted Hues is a geometric design from Orley Shabahang’s Art Deco collection. Its pattern consists of multicolored triangles that form concentric squares within an abrashed cream border. One of the things that I love most about this Persian carpet is its use of color. Even though there is a vast range of tones that are handwoven into this rug, its geometric composition does not read as busy or gaudy. Far from it! The subtlety of many of the colors and the natural striation of our vegetable dyes create a rich tapestry that constantly imparts visual delight.
As someone who loves the mid-century modern aesthetic, I have always been drawn to this carpet. Rather than placing a dull carpet on the floor that reads as an afterthought, Quilted Hues provides a work of art that can pull together the rest of the colors and textures of the room. It provides an excellent color palette to build from. Quilted Hues reads well with a jewel toned couch and chairs for those who crave everything color, but also complements neutral toned furniture that allows the rug itself to be the center of attention.
