This Persian Qashqai Neriz carpet, circa 1880, consists of a pure handspun wool warp, weft and hand knotted pile. The design displays the classic Qashqai geometric style with multiple medallions. Between those medallions, smaller figures fill the negative space with a variety of interesting motifs. Vegetable dyes create beautiful hues in the blue and gold of the medallions, which star atop a background of red, orange, and a darker blue. It is an exceptional carpet in good antique condition.
