A Fun Night at Thomas Riley Studios
We had a great time at Thomas Riley Studio’s opening night of their current exhibition, Art + Design. Here are some shots from our live weaving demonstration!
A big thank you to Thomas Riley Studio for hosting an unforgettable evening of great music, delicious food, and inspiring art. We also appreciated the wonderful opportunity to perform a live weaving demo to give the audience a better idea of what makes our carpets so special and unique.
Orley Shabahang carpets are created using centuries-old weaving traditions. This particular piece follows a pattern typical of traditional Persian carpets – one row of Persian knots, followed by two weft passes. The Persian knot is locked in place by the weft that is woven on top of it.
Showing the public the concentration and patience necessary to tie each knot as dictated by a pattern on grid paper drove home the reality of the craftsmanship that goes into every Orley Shabahang carpet. We are proud to keep this art form prevalent in today’s world or prefabrication and mass production.
If you are interested in learning more about our weaving process, feel free to visit the loom located at our New York showroom for your own live demo!
