Antique Sarouk Fereghan Carpet

Collection:

This Persian Sarouk Fereghan carpet created, circa 1880 consists of a cotton warp and weft, hand-knotted pure wool pile, and organic vegetal dyes. It is an exceptionally elegant piece and its size is indicative of its role as a “shah neshin,” or “king’s room” carpet. The king’s room, as it was called, was intended for guests and gatherings, making it the most important and distinguished of all the rooms in the house. Clearly, a unique and one-of-a-kind carpet, its intricate and balanced design is abound with symbolism. The Cyprus trees symbolize stability, while the willow trees symbolize love as they reference the epic love story of “Leyli and Majnun.” This carpet is in excellent vintage condition; its rich golds, reds, blues, and creams still shine, and its pile remains silky and soft. The size is 7’2″ x 17’4″.
