Antique Persian Eagle Kazak
Hand-knotted in Iran, this blue, red, and cream Persian Kazak carpet measures 5’2” x 6’11” and belongs to Orley Shabahang’s Antique collection. This carpet incorporates traditional Kazak motifs within an a-typical design. Traditionally, Kazak carpets feature an abstract, ornate central medallion to symbolize the Imperial Eagle. This carpet, however, utilizes a literal translation of the Eagle’s silhouette to distinguish the medallion’s border. The central medallion further exhibits a blue, cream, and red star, symbolizing light. Within the Imperial Eagle wing and tail, intricate tribal Persian motifs including, human figures, flowers, trees, and sabers, add color, contrast, and detail to the geometric design. Tree-of-life motifs adorn the rich red field, ascending in columns from end to end. Encompassing the Eagle and field, a contrasting border design in black, blue, red, and cream detailing evoke imagery of spiraling vines and crashing waves. Created over 100 years ago, this Antique Kazak is still ideal for an entryway, bedroom, living room, or anywhere that a 5’ x 7’ area carpet is needed.
