Antique Khoy Carpet

Collection:

This antique Khoy Persian carpet in blue, red, and green circa 1920 is 13′ x 20′ and features a curvilinear central medallion and intricate multi-banded border. Commissioned by the order of Reza Shah from the workshop of master weaver Javan, this carpet is distinguished both historically as well as aesthetically from other Khoy carpets of its time. The medallion, field, and border are visually balanced by both the scale of the design and the distribution of color. A deep indigo backdrop in the centermost medallion grounds an interplay of light blue, red, green, and gold outlines as they travel outward toward the carpet’s border. Delicate flowers in light pink, blue and golden yellow are connected by interlaced curving stems and vines in subtly varying shades of green. This carpet consists of a hand-knotted handspun pure wool pile and is in great antique condition.
