Antique Haji Jalili Tabriz Carpet

Collection:

This 19th century Persian Haji Jalili Tabriz carpet consists of a hand-knotted woolen pile, cotton warp and threads, and natural vegetable dyes. Created circa 1880 by master weaver Haji Jalili, one of the foremost artists of his time, it is an exceptionally fine piece even among his works. Its gorgeous coloration is unique to his workshops; the soft beiges and creams balance the red and navy tones, creating an intricate medallion design that is harmonious in virtually any setting. The medallion exhibits four butterflies dancing within a single flower, and within the darker bands of the medallion are stylized caterpillars, referencing the process of metamorphosis and transformation in the cycle of life. Measuring 12′ x 17′, this is a truly unique and one-of-a-kind carpet in excellent antique condition.
