Persian Tehran Tree of Life Carpet with Hunting Scene, circa 1880

This Persian Tehran tree of life carpet consists of a cotton warp and weft, hand-knotted wool pile and natural vegetable dyes. The wool used in this carpet comes exclusively from the neck of the sheep, where there is the highest concentration of lanolin, giving the pile a silk-like quality and shine.

The color combination of light blues, light reds, creams and golds is highly unique and highlights the exceptional detail of both the tree of life design and hunting scene motifs. The field depicts the Garden of Eden and the struggle between good and evil.

This carpet is in excellent antique condition, and the size is 4’6″ x 7′. You can view this antique and many more on our 1stdibs page!
