This Persian Qashqai carpet created, circa 1940 consists of a handspun wool warp, weft and hand-knotted pile and natural vegetable dyes. Its highly detailed central lion design is balanced by the carpet’s strong red field and colorful geometric border.
There is powerful symbolism shown throughout the carpet’s patterns, extending from the tree of life depicted within the lion’s body to the village motifs offsetting the border.
This is an exceptionally striking piece, even among other Qashqai animal rugs. The size is 3’4″ x 4’7″ and it is in excellent vintage condition.
This carpet was used as a template and inspiration for one of our carpets in our Animal Collection which use more subtle colors and simplified design while still accomplishing the bold nature of the lion!
