Turkish Oushak Carpet, circa 1880
This Turkish Oushak carpet created circa 1880 consists of a handspun wool warp, weft and hand-knotted pile. It is an exceptional example of an Oushak made for internal use, which is why the colors are so rich and vibrant.
The deep reds of the field are beautifully balanced by the blues, greens and golds of the carpet’s garden design. The four-pointed star within its central medallion represents the four elements: wind, water, fire and earth. This carpet is in great condition, and the size is 13’6″ x 15’6″.
